Man who took his own life over teen had constantly harassed females in area – victim

The Riverview, Ruimveldt woman who was attacked by Jeffrey Narine before he stabbed himself and died on Monday, said that the man “terrorized” females in the area.

The 36-year-old housewife spoke to this newspaper on Wednesday just hours after returning home from the Georgetown Public Hospital. She said that Narine would terrorize her and many others in the Riverview area. The woman said that Narine had a habit of going into the area and “terrorizing” persons when he drank. She also said that he would harass females by use of unwanted and explicit sexual overtures which she considered to be disrespectful. She further disclosed that both she and her teenage daughter were targets of his offensive and derogatory comments.

She then recalled the events of Sunday and Monday. She explained that on Sunday, Narine started harassing her. “I was cooking and Jeffrey deh out there and peeping me and said he going to murder me. I run up here and lock my door because no one was home,” she said, indicating where the man was standing by the fishery and where she stood by her back door.

She said that the next day (Monday), he made more threats and she asked her husband to stay home because she was scared of the man’s threats. She said that eventually Narine left and from what she was told, he went to imbibe alcohol before he returned and attacked her. At that time she was feeding her puppy on her back steps because she didn’t want to move further from her house as she was fearful of him catching sight of her. However, Narine approached while armed with the weapons and “started firing chops,” she said. She tried to get away by running into her house but she slipped on a mat by the door. By this time her husband, who was inside came to her assistance and immediately summoned an ambulance.

Asked whether she and the man had any past misunderstanding that might’ve led to the attack, she repeated that Narine was very troublesome in the area. She further said that neither she nor her daughter, had ever been involved with Narine.

The police on Monday night stated that Narine, of La Parfait Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, went to the woman’s home, threatened and wounded her before stabbing himself when the police went to arrest him. He collapsed in front of a shop at Riverview and was pronounced dead by a doctor who was summoned to the scene.

According to the police, the woman lives with her husband and her 14-year-old daughter. It was reported that Narine threatened to kill both the woman and her daughter if he could not be with the teen. The police said the woman rebuked him and he left. However, a few hours later, he returned with two cutlasses in his hands and a knife tucked into the waist of his pants and went to the apartment where he chopped the woman. She was subsequently taken to the hospital where she received seven stitches to her right wrist and five stitches to her abdomen.
