Seventy-nine new COVID cases recorded

Seventy- nine new COVID-19 cases were yesterday recorded and the majority were reported in Region Four.

According to the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard the 79 new cases increased the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 5,528 and were recorded from 304 more persons who were tested during the last testing cycle. As a result the total number of persons tested in Guyana now stands at 31,040.

The new cases were recorded in seven of Guyana’s ten administrative regions with 34 in Region Four and 20 in Region Seven, the two regions with the majority of new cases. However, 2 cases were recorded in Region One, 5 in Region Three, 2 in Region Six, 5 in Region 9 and 11 in Region Ten.

There are 715 active cases in the country, 43 of which are in institutional isolation while another 712 are in approved home isolation. Meanwhile, four persons are patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit even as some 31 persons are in institutional quarantine.

Some 88 more persons have recovered from the novel coronavirus, increasing the total number of recovered cases to 4,618.
