Seventy-nine new COVID cases detected

Seventy-nine new COVID-19 cases were yesterday recorded with the majority of those coming from Region Ten.

This was revealed in the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard which showed that the 79 new cases increased the total number of positive confirmed cases to 5,811. New cases were reported in seven of Guyana’s ten administrative regions;  11 cases in Region One, 22 in Region Two, 5 in Region Four, 4 in Region Five, 9 in Region Six, 2 in Region Seven and 26 in Region Ten.

Some 238 more persons were tested during the last cycle which increased the total number of persons tested to 33,020. There are now 726 active COVID-19 cases, 42 of whom are in institutional isolation while some 684 are in home isolation. Six persons are now in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The number of persons in institutional quarantine has decreased to 26.
