Eccles youth succumbs after LBI crash

An Eccles youth succumbed at a city hospital early yesterday morning, hours after he allegedly lost control of his car and crashed into a utility pole along the La Bonne Intention (LBI) East Coast Demerara (ECD) Railway Embankment.

Dead is Anthony Patandin, 22, of Eccles, East Bank Demerara.

Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Royston Andries-Junor yesterday confirmed that a police investigation is underway into the accident, which occurred around 10.30 pm on Friday.

He said Patandin succumbed to his injuries around 1.30 am yesterday, while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

According to the police, enquiries revealed that Patandin lost control of the car and crashed into a utility police along the Railway Embankment.

The car eventually landed in a nearby trench.

Patandin was allegedly speeding at the time of the accident, the police said.

He was the lone occupant.

Following the accident, scores of persons rushed to assist Patandin, who was trapped in the car. With the help of responders from the Guyana Fire Service, Patandin was pulled out of the mangled car.

He was taken to the GPH in an unconscious state.

Patandin’s body is at the hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy, which will be conducted in the new week.

Patandin recently got engaged and had been planning his wedding.
