The Beehive community is in a state of shock following the death of an eight-year-old pupil of Clon-brook Primary School who is believed to have been electrocuted yesterday morning after he was found in an unconscious state with an electric drill in his hand.

The deceased has been identified as Daishaul Doris, of Company Dam, Bee Hive, East Coast Demerara.

According to a police report, investigations revealed that the boy was at home with his 21-year-old sister who is a teacher, when at about 11am, he left to go downstairs. Fifteen minutes later, his sister called out for him but got no answer. During this time, a younger cousin arrived upstairs informing her that Daishaul was lying in the yard.

The report further stated the sister upon arriving downstairs found the child lying motionless and foaming from the mouth. An electric drill was in his right hand. She raised an alarm which alerted neighbours as well as an aunt who placed the boy in a taxi. He was taken to the Dr CC Nicholson Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The spot in which Daishaul’s body was found was said to be moist. A burn mark was seen on the outer part of his right foot.

Meanwhile, police have taken possession of the drill and a yellow electrical cord, both of which have been lodged at the police station. The electrical cord was said to have been used to power a washing machine under the house. The drop cord at the time of the incident was plugged into an electrical outlet in the upper flat. The report further states that the drill is usually kept in a small store room in the yard.

The mother of the boy who is a teacher at Clonbrook Primary School was said to be away at school at the time of the incident.

Daishaul was the youngest of six children according to his great uncle, Kabellia Mbicka.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
