Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum had previously told Stabroek News that Heyliger was arrested on Tuesday in Kitty.

Heyliger is one of four men who had been charged in February, 2018, with the murder of moneychanger Shawn Nurse, who was fatally shot during a robbery at America Street and Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown. He was eventually freed at the conclusion of the preliminary inquiry into the charge.

As the investigation into Gonsalves’ murder continues, the police are pursuing a second suspect.

Gonsalves, 60, of Pere Street, Kitty was shot and killed around 9.45pm when he was attacked by two men on a motorcycle.

The attack occurred in front of the Red Bar at Garnett Street, Newtown, Kitty.

The police said that Gonsalves was attacked by two men while proceeding west along Garnett Street on his motorcycle, a black and white Honda XR motorcycle, bearing registration number CJ 600 and valued at $450,000.

One of the suspects, who was armed with a handgun, shot Gonsalves several times, causing him to fall to the ground. The bandit escaped on Gonsalves’ motorcycle.

One of Gonsalves’ workers had been his pillion rider at the time of the attack and he escaped unhurt

An autopsy revealed that Gonsalves died as a result of multiple gunshot injuries.

At the time of the shooting, Gonsalves and his worker were reportedly on their way to purchase cigarettes.

However, as they stopped in front of the bar, the two bandits on the motorcycle pulled up alongside them and launched the attack.

Gonsalves was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical technicians.
