Georgetown retained the Demerara U19 Inter-Association title after a rained out final round.

Georgetown were declared winners of the Demerara Under-19 Inter-Association tournament after persistent rainfall made cricket impossible yesterday.

At the Everest Cricket Club ground, the champions were to be decided with undefeated Georgetown and East Bank, who had one win and a no result clashing at the Carifesta and Camp Street Club ground. In the end, the washout saw Georgetown retaining their title with nine points and East Bank settling for the runner up position with six points.

Successful skipper, Dwain Dick, vented his frustration with the way the day’s play ended, citing the missed opportunity some of the players in his side faced as they looked to push for spots in the Demerara Under-19 squad.

“It’s really disappointing rain ended the match,” he said.

“You know this is the road to the Inter-County tournament and a lot of players were looking to make a final push for a place in that side,” he added.

Nevertheless, Dick added that he was happy to lift the trophy but was keen to have a match in what he dubbed “a final.”

The 18-year-old all-rounder noted the contributions of Alvin Mohabir, who scored a half century in the first round and took a five-wicket haul in the second round.

East Bank captain, Zachary Jodah also shared his disappointment at the outcome since it effectively cost them the title without giving them a chance.

Meanwhile, at Enmore Community Centre West Demerara and East Coast ended the tournament winless as rain had the final say.
