Corentyne labourer gets 18 months for break-in and larceny

A Corentyne labourer will be spending the next two Christmases in jail after admitting to break and enter and larceny.

Shamwar Approo, 26, a labourer of Chesney Housing Scheme, Corentyne, Berbice, was charged after being arrested on December 14th. He appeared at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court, where Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh read the charge to him last Thursday.

Approo pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months behind bars for the crime.

Meanwhile, another labourer, Deolall William, 46, of Miss Phoebe, Corentyne, Berbice, was charged with a similar offence at the Whim Magistrate’s Court, where he too faced Magistrate Singh.

He was not required to plead to the charge and was granted his release on $30,000 bail. The proceedings were adjourned until February 4th.
