GTT donates to ‘Computers for Guyana’ project

An additional three dozen children in vulnerable communities are now able to access online learning following a GTT donation.

A release from the company yesterday said that it donated devices to the ‘Computers for Guyana’ project to enable these children to get online.

GTT’s Chief Marketing Officer, Orson Ferguson, said the company is pleased to support the ongoing national effort to ensure that ‘no child is left behind’ as students rely mainly on online education to ensure continued learning despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The education of our children – the future generations of Guyana – is important to us. For near 30 years we have supported the evolution of our country and today as we collectively face this pandemic, we admire and willingly bolster the efforts being made by the ‘Computers for Guyana’ team to meet the needs of students in need of assistance, recognizing that we are in this together,”  Ferguson stated, according to the release.

Co-organiser of the ‘Computers for Guyana’  project, Nicolas Stephney, said in the release that the team received requests from students in need of computers but lacked the resources to meet their demands. Eventually, the team reached out to GTT for assistance.

“This generous donation is much appreciated and goes beyond our expectation…it will really help us to assist more students. Given the pandemic, students are forced to take classes online and they understandably need these devices to continue their education,” Stephney said.

“Currently, we are focusing on helping those exam-critical students at the University of Guyana and the students who will sit the CSEC examination in 2021,” Stephney said.

Also expressing gratitude to GTT was Lead Organiser of the Group, Aggrey Marsh. “We are thankful today to GTT for providing us with the resources and devices necessary to continue to make an impact” said Marsh. The Project Organiser  also encouraged other interested persons to give of their support by contacting the group on 658-1909 or via https://computersforguyana.org/
