North Ruimveldt taxi driver carjacked at gunpoint

A taxi driver was on Tuesday night robbed at gunpoint of his valuables by two unidentified men at Good Success, East Bank Demerara, including his car which the men drove off with while it was still occupied by a passenger.

The police yesterday said that on the night of the incident, the driver, 34-year-old Kevin Hope of Lamaha Springs, North Ruimveldt, was operating his car, a white Toyota Premio HC 8929 when he was hired at about 8 pm by a passenger from a hotel in Georgetown to be transported to Good Success.

Upon arrival at Good Success about thirty minutes later, Hope encountered the two suspects, one of whom was armed with a handgun. He was struck in his head with the gun before the bandit discharged a round in the air. Hope was ordered to exit his car which he did, then the men jumped into the vehicle, which was still occupied by the passenger, and drove off.

Among the items that were stolen are: the victim’s car valued at $3.2 million, one Samsung A21 cellphone valued at $48,000, a car jump starter valued at $15,000, a Motorola radio set valued at $50,000 and $2,000 in cash.

No one was injured. Attempts to contact the police about the fate of the passenger were unsuccessful
