Kiltairn man on attempted murder charge after allegedly stabbing man in eye

A Kiltairn man was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with attempted murder of a man whom he allegedly stabbed in the eye on Christmas Day.

Reginald Dabydeen, known as ‘Reggie,’ 46, of Lot 3 Kiltairn Village, Corentyne, was charged with attempting to murder Kenneth Seecharran, at Eversham Village, Corentyne, on December 25.

Dabydeen, a labourer, appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore at the Whim Magistrate’s Court.

He was not required to enter a plea and bail was refused.

He is to return to court on January 15th for report.

According to information gathered, Seecharran, 47, a farmer of Lot 3 Eversham Village, Corentyne and Fidel Paul, 56, an operator of the said address, were allegedly attacked by Dabydeen last week Friday afternoon.

Stabroek News was told that the men were at home when an intoxicated Dabydeen entered and dealt Paul a slap, after which he broke a beer bottle and allegedly dealt Paul several minor stab wounds about his body.

Paul was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital and was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where he was treated.  It is alleged that sometime after, Seecharran approached the accused and questioned why he had stabbed Paul and the man then dealt him a stab to his left eye and another to his upper back.

Dabydeen then made good his escape but was later arrested.

Seecharran was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital and has since been transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment.

Commander of ‘B’ Division Jairam Ramlakhan yesterday noted that the police are awaiting the medical report for Paul, after which charges are expected to be filed in relation to the attack on him.
