Diamond resident died in New Year’s Day accident

A Diamond resident died after he was struck down on New Year’s Day while crossing the Covent Garden Public Road.

The deceased has been identified as Mark Culpepper, 35.

Police Commander of Region 4 ‘B’, Linden Isles yesterday told Stabroek News that from preliminary investigations, Culpepper, was crossing the road from west to east at approximately 7.30 pm. In the process of doing so he walked into the path of a  truck, GKK 5556 and the left side of the vehicle struck him.

Culpepper was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted and treated but later succumbed.

At the time of the accident the man was unidentified. However, police yesterday sought the public’s assistance to positively identify the man.  In a subsequent post, the force said “within hours of releasing a sketched image of a man killed in an accident on the Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara Public Road on New Year’s Day, the Guyana Police Force has been able to identify the victim.”
