Two men from Region Six have suffered losses in separate fires.

Raymond Mangru, 30, self-employed, of Lot 122 Area R Babu John Village, Corentyne, lost the place he called home in a fire on Sunday.

Mangru told investigators that around 8.15 pm, the house was destroyed by a fire of unknown origin.

Mangru, who said he decided to move into the then abandoned house in 2019, was at a friend’s house on Sunday evening when he received a phone call from one of his neighbours, who informed him that his house was on fire.

Upon returning home he saw the entire house on fire. The fire service responded and quickly extinguished the fire. Stabroek News was told that the house had no electrical connection. The police have since launched an investigation.

Meanwhile, around 1 am yesterday a fire partly damaged the house of Delroy Paul, 22, a cattle farmer of Lot 4 Adelphi Village, East Canje, Berbice.

According to information gathered, Paul was at a party when he was informed that there was a fire at his house.

He then rushed home and found smoke emanating from the house. He immediately alerted the neighbours, who then formed a bucket brigade and extinguished the fire.

The police have launched an investigation.
