An East Bank Berbice man was arrested yesterday afternoon after he reportedly torched his home.

Ramnarine Mangru, also known as ‘Baby,’ 22, of Enfield Village, East Bank Berbice, resided in the house with his brother, Haresh Mangru, 25, a farmer, and his sister in law, Kimberly Mahadeo, 17.

Haresh reportedly told investigators that around 4 pm he left for a farm located about 200 yards away and about 30 minutes later he heard persons shouting that there was a fire at his house.

He then rushed home and found the back of the upper flat of the two-storey house engulfed by flames.

The fire service was then summoned and quickly put out the fire before it spread to a nearby house.

However, the house Ramnarine resided in, which belongs to an overseas-based Guyanese, was destroyed.

Based on information gathered at the scene, Ramnarine was arrested after persons related that he allegedly started the fire.
