Decomposed body of Cane Grove man discovered at Rotterdam

The badly decomposed body of a Cane Grove man was on Sunday discovered in a sheep pen at Rotterdam, East Bank Berbice, next to the area where the man was said to be working at the time.

Dead is Ramkarran Ramnarine, 50, of Lot 25 Virginia Village, Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara.

According to information gathered, Ramnarine was employed with rice farmer Pataysar Somawaru, 57, also of Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara, who is reportedly presently cultivating rice at Rotterdam Village.

The rice farmer, who filed the police report on Sunday, told investigators that he and Ramnarine went to Berbice on Monday, January, 18. However, it was decided that Ramnarine would look over the man’s cultivation while he left the following day (January, 19).

The rice farmer said that he last spoke with Ramnarine on Wednesday, January, 20. However, he then tried to contact the man the following evening but his calls went unanswered.

After being unable to contact Ramnarine for several days, the rice farmer returned to the area on Sunday where he discovered Ramsarran’s decomposed body in a sheep pen located about fifteen miles from the East Bank Berbice Public Road.

A report of the discovery was then filed at the Sisters Police Station after which ranks then took the body to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where the man was officially pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, a source told Stabroek News that due to the advanced state of decomposition it was not possible to notice if there were any marks of violence on the body.

As of yesterday police were continuing their investigation, while a post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out before the end of the week.
