Residents of Lesbeholden, Black Bush Polder yesterday received three streetlights which were sent by Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, after same was requested from him during a recent visit to the area.

Last week, Mustapha visited the various parts of  Black Bush Polder and at Lesbeholden he met with a group of upset women who voiced their frustration about the condition of the Lesbeholden North access road.  Mustapha then instructed that the road be included in the next budget.

In addition to this, the resident also requested three streetlights which the Regional Vice Chairman, Zamal Hussain delivered on behalf of  Mustapha yesterday.

Champawattie Singh, 48, one of the residents who met with the minister last week, yesterday stated, that she is extremely grateful for the streetlights. “The place does be very, very dark so we thankful for the light”, she said. Another resident, Nandrannie Sharma, who has been residing in Black Bush Polder for the last 20 years and was very vocal during last week’s meeting, yesterday pointed out that the minister had promised to ensure a machine is sent to the area to clear drains and bushes”, and he already send the hymac  to clean all already”, she noted.

Meanwhile, the women are calling on the Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand and other ministers to visit the area and listen to their issues as was done by Mustapha.

Sharma noted that they are in dire need of phone and internet services in the area. “I does got to put $5,000 data plan for my daughter a week because she going to UG and that is $20,000 a month, it hard for me but we got to try do it”, she said.

The woman said that they have several other issues which they wish to raise with Manickchand also.
