The Ministry of Health yesterday received personal protective equipment (PPE) valued $10 million from the Guyana Logistics and Support Services Incorporated (GLASS) to aid the country’s Covid fight, according to the Department of Public Information (DPI).
Minister, Dr Frank Anthony expressed gratitude to the company during the presentation ceremony at his Brickdam office. He said discussions were held some months ago due to the shortage of PPEs on the world market, so there were difficulties procuring the items.
“I recall many months ago we started talking about this and I am very happy that it came to fruition. This is going to go to our frontline health workers because you know, for them to protect themselves, we’ll need PPEs and this will form a very integral part of the PPEs required and so on behalf of the Ministry of Health we’d like to thank you for this kind gesture.” The donation included 600 coveralls, 1,950 disposable protective gowns and 420 hazmat suits. While the Ministry has received donations from several entities, there were few which included protective equipment, DPI said.
