(Trinidad Guardian) Sources have told Guardian Media that doctors have so far discounted any major cardiac problem with Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley.

Dr Rowley underwent several tests by the doctors at the Westshore Hospital and despite their findings, are keeping him under observation for the night.

The prime minister went to the hospital with chest pains around 5 pm yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Prime Minister has issued a statement saying the prime minister is in good spirits.

“I wish to advise that Dr the Honourable Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago had some discomfort this afternoon and as a precautionary measure he decided to seek medical attention and have a check-up.

At this time, we are pleased to advise that the Prime Minister is in good spirits.

Out of an abundance of caution he will be kept for observation and further tests will be conducted.”

In February 2019, Dr Rowley underwent a series of medical tests on his heart in California.  Results from Dr Rowley’s cardiologist revealed that he had no need for surgery.

In 2016, his doctors observed soft plaque developing in one of his arteries. However, in 2017, the condition was believed to have worsened.

The Prime Minister made dietary changes and in 2019, a year and a half later, made his return to monitor his changes.
