City Council, Lamaha Gardens group ink MoU for development

The Georgetown Mayor and City Council on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Lamaha Gardens Community Cooperative Society Limited (LGCCSL) for the development of the area.

The signing took place at the City Hall’s Council Chamber in the presence if Mayor Ubraj Narine, Deputy Mayor Alfred Mentore, acting Town Clerk Julian Orgista and LGCCSL Chairman Ronald Ali.

In a press release on the MoU, the City Council stated that the initiative will foster community development.

It added that the Mayor and Councillors are sincerely appreciative for the opportunity “to have support from communities in community development, so that together we can have better living environments.” 

Narine, at a press conference on Friday, said the MoU was while works was previously done by the council in the area, maintenance was inadequate.

Narine said after receiving word from the community requesting the council’s help, representation was further made by Deputy Mayor Mentore, who is also a representative for the constituency.

He noted that a decision was later made to allow the community to develop an open space so that it can be utilise by children and adults for recreational activities.

He added that a “mini park” would be established.Narine added that the council is willing to lend a hand to develop other areas by way of signing a MoU.
