Eight held after cops find ganja, suspected stolen goods at Goed Fortuin

Eight persons including a twenty-three-year-old labourer were on Saturday midday arrested by police following a raid at Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara.

A plastic bag containing cannabis and suspected stolen items were seized.

According to a police press release, acting on information received, police carried out a raid between 12.30 pm and 1.10 pm at the home of a labourer. It was stated that police upon arriving at the residence, told the labourer the purpose of the exercise being carried out. They also said that they were informed that he was in receipt of narcotics, guns, ammunition, and stolen items and wanted to conduct a search for the same.

It was said that the suspect co-operated with the ranks, allowing them to search his home where police discovered a black plastic bag containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis, a complete Xbox game system along with eight discs, one BLU cellphone, and a pair of binoculars.

The police report stated that when ranks questioned the man, he could not give a reasonable explanation for how he acquired the items. As such, he was cautioned and arrested. A further search was carried out behind the house where seven persons were found. They were also arrested and have been detained at the La Parfaite Hamonie Police Station.

The cannabis was weighed and amounted to thirty grams.
