Berbice farmer gets two years for possession of cannabis

A Berbice farmer has been sentenced to two years imprisonment after pleading guilty to having 1.04 kg of cannabis.

Delon Rose, 28, a farmer of Hururu Mission, Berbice, appeared in the courtroom of Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrate’s Court when he admitted to having 1.04 kg of cannabis in his possession.

The charge alleges that on January 12, he had in his possession 1.04 kg of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. He admitted to the charge and was sentenced to two years behind bars.

According to the facts in the matter, on January 12, the police stopped a Route 43 bus and conducted a search of the vehicle. During the search, the police found a red five-gallon bucket and upon further enquiry, it was revealed that the bucket belonged to Rose, who was among the passengers. The bucket was opened and during the search of its contents the 1.04 kg of cannabis was found.
