‘Chappy’ awaits sentence for wounding with hammer

A man on trial for hitting another man in the head with a hammer is now awaiting his sentence after a jury convicted him late yesterday afternoon on a charge of felonious wounding.

After some hours of deliberations, a jury unanimously found Compton Fecker, called ‘Chappy,’ guilty of feloniously wounding Alvin Melville on March 19th, 2015 at Parika, East Bank Essequibo.

Fecker had been indicted for attempted murder or felonious wounding in the alternative.

The jury convicted him on the alternative count.

Justice Brassington Reynolds, who presided over the trial at the Georgetown High Court, has deferred sentencing until February 3rd to facilitate a probation report.

The facts of the case are that on the day in question the parties were involved in an argument when Fecker armed himself with a hammer and dealt Melville several blows to his head.

Fecker was represented by attorney Adrian Thompson. The state’s case was presented by prosecutor Seeta Bishundial in association with Tyra Bakker.
