“Wuk or Stay Bruk” is Charmaine Blackman’s latest release. The Soca song, which dropped on Monday last, has been attracting great reviews.

The song is as plain as its name and promotes hard work if one has life goals one wishes to attain. Charmaine sings, “Yuh Can’t Reap Before Yuh Sow” adding that people want to have a luxurious house, money, a beautiful family and their dream career yet nothing great comes without sacrifice.

“We have people who are willing to meet somewhere but they are not willing to put in the work. They want to achieve this, they want to achieve that, they think it’s just [little work] and it will happen. Based on that, the song was written,” the singer said. The song was written by her producer husband, Bonny Alves.

Among the comments it has garnered on YouTube are: “Has a great message and…catchy too”; “Charmaine this is fire. I love it!”

Despite the effects of the pandemic, Charmaine and Bonny managed to put on four virtual shows that were highly anticipated by fans. Charmaine also did about 15 other events in collaboration with companies including the National Communications Network and ExxonMobil. The singer was also a part of a commercial drop for a stereo set production.

Fans have already begun making special requests for there to be a virtual concert for Valentine’s Day and as much as Charmaine is eager to do so, it is not possible as the Mashramani season is around the corner. As it relates to Mash, the events that have been confirmed so far Charmaine said are virtual competitions. This year the Calypso, Chutney, and Soca competitions will be hosted virtually. Together, Charmaine and Bonny are preparing 11 contestants for all three of the competitions.

“We hope that COVID is going to subside with the advent of the vaccine but that is still unsure. Regardless of that, we have our projections. We are not yet ready to let the cat out of the bag quite yet. We still have virtual concerts coming up though not in the near future,” the artiste said.

“Wuk or Stay Bruk” is also being played on air on 98.1FM, MAAD 97.5FM and 100.1FM.

Also in the works, is a musical video of the song set to come in the first week of February.
