A Corentyne man and a teenager yesterday pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the murder of a Tain Settlement security guard who was killed during a robbery in March, 2018 at Rose Hall Town, Corentyne.

Carlos Bollers, 21, of Lot 119 Williamsburg Village, Corentyne, and the teenager, who was a minor at the time of the crime, entered their guilty pleas before Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall at the High Court in Berbice yesterday.

Probation and pre-sentence reports were ordered for February 11, when they both will return to court for sentencing.

Ayasammy Monien

In April, 2018, the two were charged with the murder of Muneshprem Ayasammy Monien, 53, during the course or furtherance of a robbery.

Monien’s battered body was discovered at Sukhram’s General Store and Agro Chemicals, where he was working in Rose Hall Town. His throat was slit and he had a head wound, broken legs, and other injuries.

Police had suspected an inside job since there were no signs of any forced entry at the business. As a result, seven of the 12 employees including the two accused, were taken into custody for questioning. One of the accused had reportedly confessed to the crime and implicated one of his co-workers, after which police had said that the second suspect also confessed.

Investigators were told of the location of the murder weapon as well as a large portion of $1.5 million that was stolen in the robbery.

Stabroek News was told that Bollers was one of the employees who was responsible for closing the store every afternoon.

According to investigators, he had allegedly taken the key home that afternoon and returned with Singh later in the night to carry out the robbery, which led to the murder of the security guard.
