Corentyne mechanic dies following West Berbice collision

A Corentyne mechanic died yesterday morning after he was involved in an accident along the Number 23 Public Road, West Coast Berbice. 

Dead is Andre Joseph, 29, of Lot 24 Manchester Village, Corentyne. He was driving motor car HB 2975 at the time of the accident. 

According to information gathered, motor car HC 7197 was heading to Georgetown. It is alleged by its  driver, Collis Johnson, 39, of Lot 73, Number 53 Village that while approaching the second turn in the village he noticed Joseph losing control of his vehicle on the wet road.  He said the front of his vehicle was then struck by Joseph’s car.

Joseph, a father of a four-year-old and two-year-old, was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital while the driver of the other car and his two passengers: Ron Mitchell, 49, of Lot 28, Number 53 Village, Corentyne and Hywon Williams, 29, of Lot 32, Number 53 Village, Corentyne sustained injuries about their bodies. 

As of yesterday the three remained hospitalized in  stable conditions. 

Joseph’s cousin, Tiffany Collins, yesterday said that the family was still in a state of shock. She relayed that her cousin, who she grew up with, left home the day prior to work on a relative’s car in Georgetown and was returning home when the accident occurred. 

Collins, who identified Joseph’s body at the Fort Wellington Hospital mortuary yesterday, said that his jewellery along with his wife’s cellphone which he had in his possession and some money were stolen from the scene of the accident.
