Man confesses to killing vagrant at Robb & Camp Sts

A vagrant was beaten to death early yesterday morning while sleeping on the pavement at the corner of Camp and Robb streets, Georgetown and his attacker has since confessed to the crime.

The dead man has been identified only as ‘Curl up toe’.

Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Royston Andries-Junor yesterday confirmed the incident which occurred around 3.30am.

The police in a statement said that a security guard, who was in the vici-nity at the time revealed that the suspect allegedly armed himself with a brick and dealt the vagrant several lashes to his head.

At the time, ‘Curl Up toe’ was asleep, the police said.

The suspect, a 27-year-old resident of Toucan Drive, South Ruimveldt made good his escape. He was subsequently arrested in Charlotte Street, Georgetown.

Stabroek News was reliably informed that the suspect was questioned during which he reportedly confessed to the crime.

He told investigators that he was frustrated at not being able to find a job. He related that he journeyed to Bourda in search of a job but his efforts were fruitless.

As such, he said his frustration grew and he went to Camp Street where he launched the attack on the vagrant.

The suspect related that he picked up a brick which was lying next to ‘Curl up toe’ and struck him to his head three times.

He said he then went to a ‘drug yard’ in Charlotte Street and he disposed of the  murder weapon.

Two vagrants were murdered on November 19th, 2019 on Regent Street. The accused was subsequently freed of one of the charges.

On Monday in Jamaica, four vagrants were murdered and two injured. A suspect has since been held.
