Ninety new COVID-19 cases recorded nation-wide

Ninety new COVID-19 cases were recorded yesterday after almost six hundred more persons were tested for the virus.

According to the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard, the 90 new cases increased Guyana’s total number of COVID-19 cases to 7,470. The cases came after 599 more persons were tested for the virus which appears to be the highest number of persons tested for one day. This increased the total number of persons tested to date to 47,957.

The new cases were reported in six of Guyana’s ten administrative Regions; four new cases each in regions One and Ten, two in Region Two, seven in Region Three, 66 in Region Four and eight in Region Six. The four new cases in Region One pushed their total number of cases over 1,000 and as a result the region remains the one to have recorded the second highest number of cases in the country to date.

There are now 754 active cases in the country, 44 of which are in institutional isolation while 710 are in home isolation. The number of patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has increased to seven.

In addition, 12 persons remain in institutional quarantine, as 46 more persons have recovered from the virus. This increases the number of persons that have so far recovered from COVID-19 in Guyana to 6,534.
