Former Golden Jaguars U20 captain Jeremy Garrett, has officially departed Tucville giant, Fruta Conquerors, for the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) during the ongoing transfer window.

This was confirmed during an exclusive interview with Stabroek Sport. According to Garrett, 21, one of the main reasons for the transfer was based on his desire to train and dwell in a professional environment, a setting which is very uncommon on local shores.

He expounded, “It was personal reasons for moving. I think going to the army with the facilities and all they have to offer, it’s the ideal environment. It the closest thing to professionalism we have in Guyana, as it relates to having a structured program, having gym and access to their own playing venue. These were the main reasons for moving.”

According to Garrett, who also featured at the senior level, the expectation of his new surroundings is to be surrounded by professionalism, which will allow him to grow especially in the mental aspect of the game.

“I expect nothing less than professionalism at the team based on what I am hearing. I expect more development as it relates to me, I expect to develop more mentally as it relates to getting into the aspect of professionalism. I am looking forward to adapting to such an environment,” he said.

He divulged that the decision to move from his boyhood club was one of the hardest choices in his athletic career to date because of the history between the two entities.

He explained, “Definitely it was probably one of the hardest decisions I ever made as athlete, because of the history and the fact that they have done so much for me. I feel it’s the right time to move, with age comes a lot of responsibility and a lot of room for growth and I feel it’s the best time to let go.”

According to Garrett, while playing against his former club will be emotionally hard, he is anticipating the matchup as it will be a new experience. He added, “Honestly it would be a joy to play against them, it will be something new to me, it would definitely be hard though. This is the club that groomed me but it’s something that I am looking forward to.”
