Couple steals car after hiring taxi to Sophia

An electrician moonlighting as a taxi driver was robbed of his car on Monday night when he ferried a couple pretending to be passengers to Sophia.

The Guyana Police Force said Corwin Griffith, 43, of Westminster, La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was relieved of his vehicle, a silver Toyota Allion bearing registration number PXX 4871, in the vicinity of ‘D’ Field, Sophia.

According to the police, Griffith was hired by the couple at America Street and they requested that he transport them to ‘D’ Field, Sophia.

Griffith accepted the work and the suspects placed two large garbage bags, suspected to contain clothing, in the car’s trunk before boarding the vehicle.

The report said on arrival at Last Field access road, Griffith exited his car and went to his trunk to remove the bags. However, the male passenger went into the driver’s seat and drove off with his companion.

The value of the car was given as $3,400,000.
