Essequibo Coast pensioner drowns at koker

An Essequibo Coast pensioner drowned yesterday morning at Henrietta, a few hours after leaving his home with a bottle of alcohol.

The deceased has been identified as 70-year-old Chitramjan Das of Richmond Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast.

According to a police report, enquiries revealed that Das who lived with his wife, left his home at about 6 am yesterday with a bottle of alcohol.

Several hours later at around 9 am, Das’ wife received information that the man had fallen into a koker at Henrietta some fifteen minutes before. Following her arrival at the scene, the man’s motionless body was retrieved by public-spirited citizens.

During an examination by the police, it was observed that Das had abrasions on his right elbow and his nose.

His body is currently at the Suddie Public Hospital awaiting an autopsy.

Investigations are continuing.
