The body of a 25-year-old minibus driver, who allegedly drowned during a midday outing on Thursday at the Blue Lake, Kara Kara, Linden, has been recovered.

Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Royston Andries-Junor confirmed that Lindo’s body was retrieved around 5.34 pm on Friday from the Blue Lake by a diver who was contracted by his relatives.

Lindo called ‘Kemo’, a resident of Cumming’s Lodge, East Coast Demerara, allegedly disappeared in the water around 12.30 pm Thursday.

The police had said that Lindo’s girlfriend related that they were in the water together when she heard splashing coming from behind her.

“When she turned around she saw the deceased’s hand stretched out,” the police said.

As a result, the police said the woman noted that she immediately grabbed onto Lindo’s hands but he was pulling her down into the water.

As a result, she said she freed herself from him and swam away.

The police added that the woman related when she looked back, she saw Lindo’s hands once after which he disappeared.

An alarm was raised and the police were later summoned to the scene.

Lindo’s body was examined by the police but there were no visible marks of violence.

An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted this week.

Lindo was a former student of the St. Joseph High School, from where he graduated in 2012, and the school’s Old Students’ Association in a Facebook post expressed condolences to his family and friends.
