Bartica miner fatally stabbed

A Bartica miner was fatally stabbed on Friday after he allegedly attacked and wounded the suspect at Pedymachi Black Water Backdam, Cuyuni River.

The dead man has been identified as Randolph Semple, 29, of Third Avenue, Bartica.

He sustained a single stab wound to his chest.

The suspect, a Brazilian national, who was stabbed in his back made good his escape and is yet to be arrested.

The incident occurred around 6 pm.

The police in a press release said enquiries revealed that Semple was at a shop when he approached the suspect who was on a motorcycle on the road and dealt him a stab in his back.

After inflicting the wound, Semple ran into another nearby shop, the police said.

However, in retaliation the suspect armed himself with a knife and stabbed Semple before escaping.

Semple walked about 400 feet away from the shop before he collapsed. He was taken to the Bartica Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The matter was reported to the police and an investigation is ongoing.
