Post mortem shows Siparuta baby died from lung infection

A post mortem done on the four-month-old baby who died suddenly died last week at Siparuta, Region Six, revealed that the infant suffered from a lung infection, which ultimately caused her death.

According to a police report, a post mortem was conducted on the baby yesterday by pathologist Dr Bridgmohan at the Skeldon Hospital in the presence of the infant’s parents and a police officer. It was found that the cause of death was bronchopneumonia (lung infection) and cardiomegaly (enlarged heart).

Following the post mortem, the baby’s body was handed over to the parents.

A Guyana Police Force report said that the infant died around 11.15 am on February 17.  It was stated that the baby’s father, Andrew Joseph, 30, said that child was put to sleep on a bed at their home in Siparuta about 11 am. However, Joseph said that shortly before the child was put to bed, she seemed to have difficulty breathing and when he decided to check on her around 11.15 am, he found that she was no longer breathing.

A COVID-19 test was conducted and the results returned negative.
