New local company targets skills training, recruitment to meet changing human resource needs

With the emerging oil & gas industry opening up Guyana to a range of investment opportunities, NSB Omega Guyana Inc (NGI) is one of several emerging enterprises that continue to swell the ranks of the private sector.

Registered to a global partner, the Atlantic Canada based NSB-Omega, NSB Omega Guyana Inc has been created to help offer Local Content-related services as an ‘oil rich’ Guyana sets a course for significant diversification.

NGI told Stabroek Business in a recent written business profile that coupled with its Canadian partner, it seeks to offer services to potential investors in a diversifying Guyana economy in areas that include staff recruitment and immigration solutions.

NGI says it offers a complete suite of human resources and recruitment solutions numbered among which are: specialist guidance in project management, project controls, engineering, contracts & supply chain services, construction management, quality assurance and quality control, health, safety & environmental-related issues, and information technology/management.

NSB Omega Guyana Inc was established in 2018 by local businesswoman Davitri Doerga, whose experience in the business sector includes a directorship on the Board of ActionINVEST Caribbean Inc (ACI), a business coaching and training company. ACI’s promotional ‘tag’ describes its goal as seeking “to serve Guyana’s developing Oil & Gas Industry.” NGI serves as a platform to allow for the training of persons in preparation for technical positions in the oil & gas sector. The local company says that it “understands the need for skills sharing and transfer” in the context of Guyana’s emerging economic direction” and that part of its mission is to “provide the skills needed by Guyanese for a successful industry.”

It is these pursuits, it says, that has informed its decision to form a strategic alliance with its external partner.

The key players in NGI are guided by the understanding that the country’s Local Content mission cannot be realised “without the development of local capacity.” Contextually, preparation for the new company’s mission was preceded, first, by a training stint in Newfoundland, Canada. Subsequently, a Canadian team travelled to Guyana to continue training the local team to further sharpen its understanding of how NGI can best add value to the overall effort to provide service to Guyana.

President and Chief Executive Officer of NSB Energy/NSB Omega, Michael Critch, understands the importance of an initiative that matches the Guyanese culture and wanted to undertake a different approach in the Guyana operations. NSB Omega wanted to give back to the community and to find a partner in the country that was capable of delivering the services. Hence he approached the team at ACI.

The Guyanese team was then trained in Newfoundland. Afterwards, a Canadian team travelled to Guyana to complete the training.

The company also offers hire search and placement services oriented to provide clients with “the right people for the job,” its summary says. Additionally it is equipped to provide payroll services as well as specialised management and immigration services.

NGI says that it is also equipped to serve large multinational companies which engage in the recruitment of specialised skills in fields such as engineering and surveying and other technical requirements. The company says that it places a high priority on a quick hiring process and the recruitment of high-quality candidates.
