Marco Seudatt, the man accused of murdering the pensioner whose body was found burnt near Huaxin Supermarket at Enmore, East Coast Demerara, was yesterday charged for the crime.

Seudatt, also known as ‘Bissoon’, 22, of Lot 175 Fourth Street, Foulis, East Coast Demerara, was arraigned before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison until May 18th, when the matter will be called again.

The burnt body of 72-year-old Mathura Etwaru was found on Monday at the Enmore Supermarket.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a statement previously stated that the body was discovered at about 8.16 am lying on the ground at the northern side of the building. After reviewing footage from CCTV cameras installed at the supermarket and nearby buildings, the police discovered that at approximately 2.46 am, Etwaru and another man were having an argument. The footage further showed the man holding onto Etwaru before pushing him to the northern side of the fence.

The assailant was also seen picking up empty cardboard boxes as he headed to the same area where he had earlier pushed Etwaru and at about 3.12 am he lit the cardboard boxes afire.

He subsequently rode away in a westerly direction.

Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination conducted on the remains of Etwaru revealed his cause of death as severe burns about the body and compression of the neck.
