West Berbice pastor dies in accident

A West Coast Berbice (WCB) pastor died after he was struck down yesterday afternoon by a speeding minibus along the Number 29 Village Public Road, WCB.

The deceased is forty-five-year-old Okechi Farley of Lot 5 Moor Park, WCB.

As related in a police press release, at around 2.40 pm minibus BXX 3321 driven by Qaison Abrams of Huntley Village, Mahaicony was proceeding west along the southern drive lane of the Number 29 Village Public Road at a fast rate when he overtook a minibus and collided with Farley who was riding his motorcycle CK 3573, in the eastern direction on the northern drive lane.

Following the collision, Farley fell onto the road and was dragged several feet on the northern parapet before the bus came to a stop as a result of crashing into a lamp post.

Farley was pronounced dead on arrival at the Fort Wellington Hospital. The driver of the bus and three other passengers were also taken to the same hospital and later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

The deceased was the pastor of the Revival Tabernacle-Gospel Crusaders and held the post of the  programme coordinator for the Guyana Sugar Corporation’s  Training Centre at Port Mourant.

The scene of the accident was canvassed for CCTV cameras but none was seen.

Police investigations are continuing.
