The inaugural Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL) Incorporated President’s T20 Softball league is expected to bowl off tomorrow and conclude Sunday.
According to the organisers, eight teams will battle for supremacy across several grounds in and around the capital city of Georgetown in each of the three categories.
The final will take place at the Everest Cricket Club ground.
In the Legends Over-50 category, powerhouses such as Regal Legends, Wellman Legends and Floodlight Legends will face stiff competition from fellow local teams, Parika Defenders and Enterprise Legends as well as overseas teams, President XI and Rockaway Legends out of New York and Sunshine State Softball Cricket Association Legends out of Miami, Florida.
Over in the Masters Over-40 division, it is an all local affair with the likes of Regal Masters, Wellman Masters, Better Hope Masters, Fisherman Masters, Success Masters, Corriverton Masters, HS Masters and Ariel Masters all in the hunt.
Meanwhile, in arguably the most electrifying category, All Stars, which is the Open division, will see Regal All Stars, Speedboat XI, Cosscutter All Stars, Hillfoot All Stars, Essequibo Wild Oates, Ariel All Stars, Xenon All Stars out of Essequibo and Success-based Avinash All Stars going for glory.
The stakes are high with the winner of each division walking away with $500,000 and a trophy while the runner up will settle for $100,000 and a trophy.
The Man-of-the-Series of the Open category will cart off with a Guyana Amazon Warriors signature bat while in the Over-40 group, the Man-of-the-Series will receive a Premier 32 inch LED television. The Man-of-the-Final in the Over-50 will win two tickets to Kaieteur Falls.
The tournament is held in accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines and will see the necessary sanitary regulations implemented.
