Tablets donated to 54 East Coast students

Fifty-four students between Dochfour and Greenfield on the East Coast of Demerara recently received tablet computers from a US-based group.

According to a press release, the tablets were donated on December 30 last year by New York-based teacher Dr Roydon Pellew and team of the USA.

The release said that the leaders of 15 churches, two temples and one mosque were involved in the distribution process.

Some relatives of Dr. Pellew who originated from Bee Hive, East Coast Demerara, Guyana had requested devices to help them in their school work. He in turn decided that he would extend a helping hand to other students. The release said that he contacted friends and relatives in the USA who joined in the act of benevolence. Thus, the birth of the distribution of the tablets.

Shemlyn Batson Andrews, District Education Officer, Region #4, was present at the  occasion. The release said that she delivered a stirring challenge to the students and parents as well as expressed appreciation on behalf of the Ministry of Education.
