A hundred children living in Berbice were recently presented with tablets and backpacks with back-to-school supplies by the Service to Humanity non-governmental organisation.

The items were distributed at the Skeldon Estate Compound.

The Founder of the NGO, Shanta Youngham, told this newspaper that those who did not receive tablets, received school supplies. Prior to the distribution exercise, Youngham spent a great deal of time checking to see which children hadn’t any devices for their virtual learning but had access to electricity and internet before they were provided with the tablets.

The tablets and school supplies were provided by Reandria Bishwahmintr, the Chief Executive Officer of New York-based RDC Kustom Remodeling. Owing to the impact of COVID-19 of teaching, Bishwahmintr’s family donated the items to ensure that the children have better access to virtual learning.

Bishwahmintr himself was present at the distribution. It was his first time back to Guyana after 20 years.

The children who received the items were selected from the following villages: Number 65, 70, 78, 75, 73, 76, 72, and 69. Also included were  Scottsburg, Line Path, Crabwood Creek, Little Africa, and Moleson Creek communities.

Service to Humanity in recent weeks also distributed 13 computers to children in Berbice.
