Several Members of Parliament were yesterday administered vaccines against COVID-19 as the Ministry of Health extended the inoculation programme.

Yesterday afternoon, the Department of Public Information (DPI) indicated that as the Ministry of Health continued its roll out of COVID-19 vaccines nationwide, a number of MPs showed up at the Parliament Buildings to receive their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

During yesterday’s COVID-19 update, Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony noted that the shots have been made available to all 65 members of the house.

“So we have extended the vaccines to our parliamentarians [and] as you know we have 65 parliamentarians. We have some parliamentary secretaries as well and we have spoken to the Speaker about this and we’re rolling out the vaccines to parliamentarians,” Anthony informed during the update.

He also stressed the importance of the population seeing the country’s leaders receiving their vaccines which serves to instill confidence in the population which in turn encourages them to be vaccinated.

Meanwhile, multiple attempts to ascertain just how many parliamentarians were inoculated during the outreach yesterday were unsuccessful as calls to the Parliament Office’s Public Relations Officer went unanswered.
