Thousands of Marijuana plants were yesterday destroyed by the police during a drug eradication exercise at the rear of Yarrowkabra Village, along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

The exercise was conducted between 7.20 am and 12.30 pm in the swamp lands about six miles aback the village.

According to a police statement, approximately 7,689 marijuana plants between three and five feet in height were destroyed by fire.

The statement added that officers were unable to ascertain land ownership since the marking of the location could not be done due to the lack of relevant equipment.

The exercise was led by three officers and eight other ranks.
