A Bloomfield Village, Corentyne, Berbice farmer was on Saturday arrested after police ranks found a quantity of suspected cannabis in an open lot about 30 feet away from his home.

The police in a statement said that the search was conducted between 2.55 pm and 3.10 pm at the home of the 34-year-old man, due to suspicions about narcotics, arms, ammunition and stolen articles.

According to the report, police during the raid observed an open lot at the side of his home, where they found a white and black bulky plastic bag approximately 30 feet away from the suspect’s yard.

Upon further inquiries, a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems were found. The farmer was shown the suspected cannabis, told of the offence and cautioned. He denied the allegations.

The man and the suspected cannabis were subsequently taken to the Whim Police Station, where he was placed in custody and the suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence. It amounted to 232 grammes.

Investigations are ongoing.
