Everest Cricket Club made light work of the University of Guyana Trojans, beating them by an innings and 73 runs on the final day of the Georgetown Cricket Association Noble House Seafoods second-division, two-day tournament yesterday.

Playing at home, Everest added 93 more runs to their 100-run lead from the first day, declaring on 265 for nine after 66.1 overs. In UG’s second innings, the educational institution was routed for 120 in 41.1 overs.

Jonathan Rampersaud took four wickets and scored 45 for UG Trojans

When Everest resumed, Matthew Nandu converted his overnight score of 57 to 96 before he was trapped leg before wicket by off-spinner, Jonathan Rampersaud. The left-handed national under-17 opener carved eight boundaries and added 77 for the fifth wicket with Amir Khan, who also converted his overnight score of six to 25 before he too was trapped leg before wicket, this time by Laurel Marks (2-33).

Dinesh Mangal chipped in with a quick cameo of 20 with two boundaries before falling to Rampersaud who ended with 4-62.  UG showed that the lengthy lay off due to the COVID-19 pandemic had taken a toll on their match preparation as they dropped eight catches.

In UG’s second innings, Rampersaud returned to play the lone hand of a responsible 45. The left hander batted through the early onslaught by Everest skipper, Dwayne Adams (3-20) who reduced UG to 43-3 at lunch.

After lunch, Khan followed up his five-wicket haul in the first innings by taking 3-26, bamboozling the middle order with his leg-spin.

Rampersaud got support from UG captain, Ray Newton (16), the pair adding 45 for the eighth wicket. Damien Vantull (21) and Keon Roberts (15) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.
