A fisherman was yesterday released on $300,000 bail after he was charged with the attempted murder of a Kumaka man.

The accused, Joel Marks, 40, of Essequibo Coast, appeared via Zoom before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court.

He was not required to plead to the offence and was subsequently granted bail.

He is scheduled to return to court on May 18, 2021, when the matter will be called again.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) had reported that the victim, 27-year-old Christoff Bridgemohan, a fisherman of Kumaka Waterfront, North West District, was chopped about his body on Monday, March 22, by two fellow seamen.

According to the report, he was subsequently rushed to the Mabaruma Hospital and shortly after transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The other suspect remains at large.
