Centuries from Kevon Boodie and Kevlon Anderson as well as a five-wicket haul from Antony Adams gave Police Sports Club (PSC) a 269-run lead over Transport Sports Club (TSC) in the Georgetown Cricket Association/GISE/Star Party Rental/Trophy Stall first-division, two-day tournament yesterday.

With the top spot of their zone on the line, Police, on home turf and under overcast conditions, won the toss and inserted Transport who were bundled out for 101 in just 27.5 overs. Police returned to end the day on 370 for three after 47 overs.

Their innings was piloted by a skipper’s knock from Boodie who took advantage of the youthful bowling attack.

The 27-year-old out-of-favour national opener, showed grit in a blistering knock of 161,

decorated by 15 sixes and 10 fours. Boodie was fortunate to be put down at long off on six, having come to the crease with his side one wicket down for 17.

He then added 50 with Alex Algoo, who was also fortunate to be given a life on seven.

However, Algoo struck two sixes on his way to 31 before getting a leading edge back to off-spinner, Alvin Mohabir, who executed a stunning low return catch.

Boodie, before holding out to long off, added 248 for the third wicket with  Anderson who operated with merciless precision. The former West Indies Under-19 batsman stroked eight sixes and nine fours on his way to 129 not out.

Anderson closed the day with an unbroken 55-run partnership with Pernell London who is on 11 not out.

Earlier, with four overs lost in the day due to a late start, Police never missed a step as medium pacer Eon Rodrigues rocked the top order with an early onslaught.

Rodrigues worked his way through the batting line up to end with 4-62.

Rain duly halted the match for 49 minutes with Transport staggering at 71-6. Lunch was taken shortly after.

When play resumed, left-arm spinner Adams struck with the first ball as well as the last ball before rain stopped play once again for another 25 minutes. Transport were  79-8 and when play was possible, Adams snatched the final two wickets to end with 5-26.

Transport had their moments with Adrian Hinds playing a flurry on shots on his way to 38, laced with four sixes and two fours before top edging a simple catch to Kestor Harcourt at fine leg.

Rafael Singh played a composed innings on his way to 38 as well, stroking four boundaries, inclusive of one six before being trapped leg before wicket to Adams while Sunil Singh was the only other batsman to reach double figures with 13.

The match resumes at 09.30 hours today.
