Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cricket West Indies (CWI), Johnny Grave says there are currently ongoing discussions to host the 2021 Regional Four-Day championship.

Grave told Stabroek Sport, “We are still in discussions with the TBs [Territorial Boards], WIPA [West Indies Players Association] and Ministries of Health to investigate and understand what will be possible this year in terms of the West Indies Championship or any four-day cricket this year.”

Back in January, Grave revealed while on the Mason and Guest radio programme, that the board was planning to bowl off the Championship in April.

“The intention is to play as I said the West Indies Championship after Easter in Barbados and then onto Trinidad and again as soon as we’ve made a bit more progress with the BCA [Barbados Cricket Association], the Barbados Government, the TTCB [Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board] and the Trinidad Government we will be in a better position to announce that [fixtures],” Grave had stated then.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic reached the Caribbean, the 2020 West Indies Championships were curtailed with two rounds outstanding.

However, since then the Caribbean has hosted a Caribbean Premier League, a Regional Super50 and a tour of Sri Lanka.

It is expected that the West Indies will host three more international tours this year as well as the Caribbean Premier League.
