In ECB’s interest elections should be held with urgency

Dear Editor,

It is time for some measure of respect-ability and competency to be restored at the level of the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB). The report sheet has been an abysmal failure, much to the disappointment of cricketers across the county. No form of competitive cricket was administered by the Board during the past four years which really has defined the legacy of the current administration. Its attempt to discredit the recent historic election of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) is most unfortunate given that the status of the ECB in its current form has credibility issues as well. There are eight members which establishes the ECB namely North, South, Central, Pomeroon, Wakenaam, Leguan, Bartica and East Bank Essequibo Cricket Committees. To date, North and Central Essequibo along with Pomeroon Cricket Committees have not held elections for the past three years with Pomeroon and Central Essequibo being chaired by the President and Secretary of the ECB respectively. This is the level of hypocrisy that is attached to the regime. It would be in the best interest of the ECB therefore to call for elections by its own members as a matter of urgency and in keeping with its constitution. Election is also due for Bartica and South Essequibo Cricket Committees. The GCB has set new standards and so should the ECB.

Sincerely,

Elroy Stephney
