Avinash Persaud takes LGC/Caribe Open title

Guyana Open men’s champion, Avinash Persaud, walked away with the top spot when the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC)/Caribe Open tournament teed off Saturday at the East Coast Demerara facility.

The tournament was sponsored by beverage giants, Ansa McAl under the Caribe Tropical hard cider brand.

Some 37 persons took to the green under overcast conditions.

Persaud, playing with a handicap of just one, grossed 68 for a net 67. He also won the longest drive while president of the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC), Patanjalee ‘Pur’ Persaud secured the runner-up position with a gross 81 and net 67 as well as best net front nine. Richard Hanniff rounded out the podium with a gross 77 and net 68.

Nearest to the Pin was won by Gavin Todd and Eureka Giddings copped the best net back nine.

Managing Director of the sponsors, Troy Codogan, along with Business Unit head, Errol Nelson and Brand Manager, Kwesi Richmond assisted with the presentations.

The LGC president thanked Ansa McAl for the continued support of LCG and also extended gratitude to the club’s membership for their excellent support by turning up to play as well as all the winners of the day’s event.

Nelson said it was pleasing for his company to see a sports event being played during the (Covid-19) pandemic and since the members of LGC were compliant to the regulations to stay safe, his company was pleased to be associated with the event. He noted that a physically healthy lifestyle helps to fight the virus.

The event was deemed a success and Nelson said the company is committed to continuing their sponsorship for years to come.
