Mibicuri peacemaker, brother injured in stabbing incident

A Mibicuri man who attempted to make peace during an argument between two men on Sunday is now hospitalised after he sustained a serious stab injury.

His younger brother who ran to his assistance also sustained a stab injury during the incident.

Injured are Vijai Raganauth, 28, and Ajai Raganauth, 21.

The incident reportedly occurred at Second Street, Mibicuri, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne on Sunday around 9 pm.

As of yesterday, police were still on the hunt for the suspect.

According to information gathered, both victims were drinking with a group of men when an argument ensued  between the stabber and another man.

Vijai reportedly attempted to resolve the matter and told the men that they were there to enjoy themselves. However, the assailant then whipped out a knife from his waist and dealt Vijai a stab to the left side of his chest. 

Ajai, who ran to his brother’s assistance, was stabbed on his right hand.

Both men were rushed to the Mibicuri Hospital where Ajai was admitted. Vijai has since been transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

Investigations are ongoing.
