Region 10 RDC urges more COVID vigilance after video shows partygoers flouting protocols

Region Ten’s Regional Democratic Council (RDC) yesterday  expressed concern over a recent party that was held in breach of the current COVID-19 measures.

The RDC, in a press release, said that it was dismayed at a recently circulated video that showed a large crowd of persons mingling with no social distancing or face masks while also not following the other protocols.

“This sight is even more unsettling due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases nationally and regionally. In the past week alone… Region Ten has had 52 positive cases of COVID-19,” the release said, while adding that events like the kind seen in the video can turn the situation into a largescale outbreak in the region.

As a result, the RDC called on the Regional Task Force and the Guyana Police Force to be more vigilant as they execute their duties. The council further implored the Linden Town Week Committee and the Region 10 Tourism Association to ensure that subsequent activities that are planned in observance of the town’s anniversary do not put the health of the residents of the region at risk.

“We, therefore, call on each and every resident to be more responsible in their behaviour during this difficult time and ask that you continue to be COVID-19 smart,” the release said.
